As Akela leaped forward towards Shan Yu, Mulan saw this as her chance. She quickly turned around and down, throwing the rest of the stuff out of the bag, but kept a tight grip on the box of matches, until she finally lifted out the dragon-shaped firework she had kept.
She didn't look around to see if Akela bit Shan Yu, so with here back to them, she lit the match and ignited the firework, which launched high into the air. She stood up a tiny bit, her back still to them, looking up as the firework exploded into a red, giant cloud of sparks before something jammed into her back. She gasped, feeling the part of her body that was impaled hurting, but then suddenly almost all of her went cold as blood came out of the wound. She collapsed onto the stone, hardly able to stop from fainting and breathing heavy, unable to speak from the pain.

Akela had expected the big Man to retaliate in some fashion, and he leaped back to avoid the big sword slicing towards him, snarling up at Shan Yu. He hadn't been quick enough to stop him from stabbing Mulan, but he had delivered a severe injury, it seemed. He began circling, forcing the Hun to either turn on his injured leg to keep facing him, or leave his back open to another attack, ready to leap away from another attack, or forwards to sink his teeth once again into the Man's flesh. He could only hope help arrived before the Villains got away with the Orb.

Mushu grinned as he managed to take out the dragon-shaped firework a bit, "Found it!" Mulan quickly lifted it out, and after lighting a box of matches, the firework was in the air. The signal was out.
"Haha! Yes!" Mushu celebrated, before he realized they forgotten about someone. He turned his head to see Mulan suddenly being stabbed by Shan Yu, the dragon's celebration now cut short by surprise and worry, "Mulan!!"
Mushu quickly rushed to Mulan's side, "Stay with me!" He said to her, looking around for anything to stop the bleeding.

Shan Yu couldn't focus on the unfamiliar voice crying out to Mulan—if he was aware that it was a miniature dragon guardian, one who was responsible for the fireworks that had killed him, it would not have gone well for Mushu—or whether Shere Khan's lunge for the prisoner cub and the Orb were successful. He had stabbed the Asian girl, and though that made him pleased, he had wounded the 'Soldier from the Mountains' before without killing her. She needed to be finished off.
But for now, dazzled by the light of the sudden firework, enraged by what it meant, leg burning, it's pain intensified brutally by the Orb...all the Hun leader could do was turn to follow the motion of the wolf who had bitten him, animal-skin cloak billowing, breath ragged, cat-like eyes slitted with rage. First the sinister man would dispatch this old beast. Then he would either kill Mulan or...
A wicked thought occurred to him. It was a shame to have to enact his revenge so speedily. That firework meant reinforcements would be coming soon for the enemy, but if Shan Yu could cut down the wolf, retrieve the Virtue, and rally his troops without being too waylaid, he might not need to do in Mulan so quickly. No, if he could end this fight and escape fast, like thieves in the night, they might not only have an Orb, but China's greatest hero as a new prisoner. Then he could torture and slowly kill her for as long as he wanted in the safety of the F.o.E. territory. That would be true revenge.
That was only if he could somehow kill Akela, get the Orb from the cub, gather up his scouting party, and disappear over the border all while being wounded and fending off the Forces of Good and before their help arrived. Risky. Very, very difficult. Was it impossible? Should he cut his losses and simply destroy the meddlesome young woman as soon as possible?
Well, first thing was first. This wolf who's fangs had wounded the greatest General in all of China...he had to become Shan Yu's next fur coat. With a war cry that was fueled by pain, the Hun leaned forward, ignoring the searing pain in his bleeding leg as he did so, and took an experimental swipe at the old canine.

Post by Gray Brother on Nov 25, 2013 4:04:27 GMT
Gray Brother lay gasping, finally getting his breath back and wondering what was going on at the top of the Gorge and how long he could pretend he was too winded to get up and keep fighting, when the red glow lit up the bottom of the monumental rut in the African Savannah. The night was painted in a flash that looked light the unnatural version of the illumination of Man's Red Flower.
Fire.
Not fire, though. A firework. Though he didn't understand what it was, a sense of joy crept into the wolf's heart, despite being in the middle of a viciously confusing battle. The Virtue wasn't visible from the bottom of the Gorge, but was he still feeling it's influence?
Getting to his paws and putting his long, slender hunter's legs to good use by dodging past Bolt's scuffle with the gray dog and Quasimodo's fight with Redeyes, Taraha tried to keep breathing evenly as he dashed for a slim ledge that climbed up the side of the gorge's cliff wall like a rugged, nature-made staircase. Kopa was still up there, and Shere Khan definitely wasn't thinking about how useful their prisoner was. If a Virtue was at stake, it was unspoken—at least among the Forces of Evil—that anyone was expendable to achieve it.
When he reached the top, breathless and sore, blood trickling down into his eyes and dust in his fur, Gray Brother was horrified. All he could see was the red seeping out of Mulan. No, he had never met the young woman. He didn't even know her name. Yes, he had seen plenty of gory, violent fights even among his own wolf friends in the Seeonee Pack, in the dangerous Jungle. But this seemed different. Everything seemed different here, in the Merged Worlds.
The evidence of what was going on was all there. Shan Yu had never ceased his relentless pursuit of the young heroine, which he'd started upon first laying eyes on her. She must have sent up whatever that loud, popping red glow was as some sort of signal to the Forces of Good. Despite that being an excellent turn of events, it had cost her dearly. Akela must have broken away from his fight with Gray Brother just in time to try and stop the Hun, but arrived only seconds too late to save her from that cold, jagged sword.
That's my fault. The thought pierced through his chaotic surroundings with a dim sort of stab. He felt responsible. Maybe that was irrational, but at the moment, Taraha didn't feel that was so. I should have dropped the act, even if it was only to save this young girl. Or I should have seen and heard and used my nose, sensed the danger to one of the Forces of Good, and let Akela fell me sooner. Then he might have made it up here in time.
Mulan was not dead. Gray Brother could see that, smell it. Something bright red, brighter than the blood, like the fire that had burst in the stars moments before, was coiled next to her. Taraha couldn't see what it was from this distance, but it was certainly alive, and probably friendly.
Finally wrenching his golden eyes from the scene before him, the earth-colored wolf, remembering to pant, found another disturbing sight; Kopa, running foolishly in the direction of the far-off, distant speck that was Pride Rock on the horizon, was being pursued by the vicious, merciless Shere Khan. Stories were told of the long grudges the big cat held against his prey, and Taraha knew firsthand of the consequences, being the adopted brother of the only meal to escape the tiger's claws, Mowgli.
Feeling torn, he finally decided after a moment of indecision not to blow his cover. Yes, that poor Forces of Good girl was laying there, bleeding out because of him, but there wasn't anything that revealing his true allegiances could do about that now. Something needed to be salvaged from his being here, and the Prince of the Pridelands was it.
There was no chance of even the speedy Kopa outdistancing Shere Khan. Not in the flat, obstacle-lacking plains of Africa. If the predator reached Smba's son, he would undoubtedly forget trying to keep him prisoner and skin the child alive, take the Orb, and return to the Outlands. Gray Brother didn't know what he would do about the Virtue clenched in Kopa's mouth (he knew he didn't want the Forces of Evil to have it, but right then, Kopa's life seemed more important), but if he could reach the Prince before the striped monster, he could pretend he was just a loyal soldier retrieving an escaped prisoner. It might mean Kopa would go back to the Outlands, captured once more when he was so close to freedom. It might even mean that the Virtue was gained by the evil ones. But at least King Simba's boy would be alive.
Trying not to wheeze, the yearling wolf gathered his legs beneath him and sprang forward, running full tilt to catch up to Khan and Kopa, hoping to pass the tiger and reach the cub first. I'm one of the fastest hunters of the Free People, he tried to encourage himself. I'll show this great cat how to really run!

Akela had expected a retaliation of some kind from the big Man. And, with the Orb close by, the pain in his neck seemed to have faded. Moreover, his agility was still as keen as ever. So, when Shan Yu's sword came swiping towards him, he simply danced backwards, moving in an almost nonchalant manner, as if the sword, and the man wielding it, were of no real consequence, even going so far as to turn his back on the Hun, and yawning in an insulting manner. In the jungle, to yawn in someone's face was a grave insult, suggesting they were tiresome.
Then he resumed circling, picking up his pace as he moved, forcing Shan Yu to continue to pivot on his injured leg if he wished to keep facing Akela. Then, after taking a few paces, he feinted forward, as if going for the Man's leg again, before reversing direction and circling once more, still increasing his pace.

Shan Yu was so enraged by the pain in his leg and the outright mocking from the wolf—a lowly animal—that he threw all caution to the wind and bellowed angrily from the depths of his stomach. If any Forces of Good backup was in the area, they would now know exactly where to go to find the site of the skirmish.
He nearly forgot himself and lunged for Akela, but at the last moment his General mindset kicked in, flinging strategy in the way of his anger. Perhaps he was less distracted because the Orb was getting farther away?
So instead of giving in to his lividity, the huge Hun gritted his teeth and remained still. Even when Akela began circling again, he did not turn, lying on his keen ears to pick out the sound of where the old canine was, even in the midst of the battle noises going on around him.
When Akela made a fake out dash for Shan Yu's leg, the feral human felt the thrill of the fight rise back up within him. That was what he had been waiting for; his opponent to make a move when he did not expect Shan Yu to be prepared. The Hun swiped quickly behind himself, hoping to have nicked the wolf, at least, before hearing the Hero resume circling.

Biff let out a growl and lunged at the white German Shepherd dog. He felt his teeth snag on something as he made a pass at him. If he was right, he would attempt to pull the other dog to the ground where he would continue the attack on him. ------- Redeyes reared up onto his hind legs, towering over the hunchback, a scowl on his muzzle. "Feh! You dare challenge me?" he grumbled, crimson eyes narrowing at the man before he swiped at him with a paw, hoping to knock him aside.

Bolt quickly swung his body out of the way of Biff's lunge. But not entirely. Biff managed to catch hold of Bolt's collar, causing Bolt to yelp as he was pulled partially to the ground. Bolt resisted just enough to keep himself on two feet, trying to get back on all four.
"Nice try," Bolt said with determination. "But your gonna have to try harder than that to pull me down!" And on the last one or two words, he gave it one big pull, trying to jar himself out from the gray mutt's grip.

Despite drawing nearer to the Virtue, Shere Khan forced his mind to clear, and he slowed to a walk as he approached Mulan's unconscious body, yellow eyes fixed on the lion cub. They should never have brought Kopa with them in the first place. That had been Shan Yu's one glaring mistake, as far as Khan was concerned. But, still, the big tiger could respect the gumption and potential the young lion had displayed. However, it was time to end it. It wouldn't be long before more of their enemies showed up.
Still keeping his eyes fixed n Kopa, he extended his claws, and placed them lightly on Mulan's neck. The other paw was held out, pads upward, towards the lion cub. "Give me the Orb, or I will kill her, slowly, and painfully. Cooperate, and I promise I won't hurt her," he said, voice even and reasonable. "And please make your decision quickly. I haven't got all day."
To emphasize his point, he lightly dug his claws into Mulan's flesh, not quite enough to draw blood, but enough to leave faint marks. A single twitch of his ear was his only acknowledgment of Taraha's presence close by.
