(OOC: Be careful not to say whether or not your attacks land, Mulan; give your opponents a chance to dodge.)
Shan Yu's howls of fury—which were now near constant—intensified when the inferior girl actually managed to wound him. It shouldn't have hurt much, and the Hun was used to pain, but this simple cut she'd managed inflicted more stinging than it should have. Blasted Virtue, he thought through a haze of anger.
Speaking of which, the warrior lunged forward as he saw what Mulan was up to—she sprang and grabbed a hold of the cliff wall with one hand, heading for the ledge about twenty feet up, one which the Orb still glowed. Now the huge warrior, as he looked up at the annoyingly bright Virtue, realized that the Orb was pulsing, strangely. It's aura of light faded and then brightened, faded and brightened, like a throbbing heart. He could almost imagine that his keen ears picked up a hum emanating from the magical sphere over the din of battle echoing throughout the Gorge.
He recalled something shared with him by the Horned King; the presence of darkness and light in the minds and hearts of beings around an Orb could seemingly confuse it. That was how the Ten Virtues had been scattered in the first place.
Shan Yu had time to flit his feline-like eyes around at the troops. There were nearly equal forces of Good and Evil. His animals versus their...well, humans and pets. The white shepherd, who had been harassing, stupidly, Shere Khan, was now grappling with the mangy mutt, Biff. The tiger, freed from having to deal with the White Shepherd, was stalking towards Shan Yu and Mulan, presumably after the Orb. Gray Brother was twisting round and round with Akela, both wolves struggling to find or keep a hold on one another. The lion cub was still stashed away. Redeyes had been waylaid on his way to the Orb by a grotesque looking man with a club.
And the Hun had an annoying girl who thought she was a warrior to crush. He brought his sword up in time to deflect Mulan's warning swipe at him from above. She only had one hand to climb with; Shan Yu had much more practice in agility. He shoved her blade off of his and sprang straight up, catching hold of the wall just beneath the Asian woman and sheathing his sword so that both hands would be free. He gripped the cliff side in one hand and with both feet, then reached up and grabbed the girl's ankle, intending to yank her down.

Shere Khan ignored the white dog's last remark, dismissing his and Biff's tussle as he turned his attention towards the glowing Virtue. His steps slowed as he approached, eyes reflecting its light as his tail lashed back and forth in irritation. As he gazed up into its depths, memories of the past stirred within him. Memories from his childhood, when he was friends with Bagheera, Baloo, Kaa, Hathi, and Louie. He remembered the first time he met Akela, and the feelings of friendship that had formed between them for a time. He was so young and carefree, then.
So weak.
With an irritated snort, he dismissed the memories as he approached the orb, baring his fangs as he gazed up at it. Then, he sprang upwards, leaping from outcropping to outcropping, feline grace and power overcoming the faint urge to get as far away from Virtue as he could. Unladen as he was, and without any distractions, he passed Shan Yu and Mulan with ease, bounding upwards until he crouched within touching distance of the orb. He paused for a moment, a bit nauseated by the orb's light, and presence. Then, scowling, he reached out a paw, and placed it on the orb's surface, drawing upon his hatred of all things Man, wondering how he was going to get it back to the Outlands, and to Prydain.
His eyes widened, and he withdrew his paw when it appeared to shrink. Then, a slow grin spread across his face, and he placed his paw back on its shining surface, imagining it small enough to carry between his jaws. His smile grew into a twisted grin as the Virtue shrank. Soon, now, it would be just the right size.

More shame and embarrassment rippled through Gray Brother as he caught Akela's disapproving glance, making him more determined than ever to impress his old mentor. Whatever else could be said about the kindhearted son of Rama, he desired to please.
So when the older wolf made another lunge for Taraha's rear, Gray Brother jerked his hindquarters out of the way. His back end circled around, as close to Akela's own hind end and therefore away from his sharp teeth as was possible with his grip on the elder's scruff. At the same time, he tried to buy his tail time to move by straining to hold the Alpha back by the neck fur.
This caused him to twist just enough to see an orange striped form blur up the cliff side. Suddenly the warm glow at his back shrank down.
In a second, the tannish-grey furred hunter knew what was happening. His team was getting the Orb. Were all of the Forces of Good's troops too preoccupied with their own battles to stop the tiger? Taraha knew he had to do something indirect, something that would hopefully alert the heroes to what was going on. Otherwise, Shere Khan might even be able to simply prowl back across the border with the first Virtue captured, unhindered.
Sorry to disappoint, Leader, he thought, regretfully letting go of Akela's scruff and springing back with a yelp, as if he'd been hurt or panicked by the olderwolf's teeth. He managed to carry himself a chort distance away with his back directly to the ledge the magical sphere was on. When the darker-coated canine turned to look at Gray Brother, he would see Shere Khan's near-victory behind the younger wolf.

As he continued to circle, snapping futilely at Grey Brother, Akela couldn't help but be impressed with the younger wolf's performance. To anyone watching, their fight would appear to be serious, while neither of them was in a position to inflict serious injury upon the other, as long as Grey Brother kept shifting in a circle as he was. And with the younger wolf's jaws clamped firmly on the scruff of his neck, his lunging snaps were held back.
So, unaware of what the younger wolf had seen, Akela was surprised when Grey Brother yelped, and disengaged, backing away as if hurt. But, since his jaws had once again slammed shut on empty air, and no one else could have attacked Grey Brother, he was momentarily baffled, and stayed where he was, fangs still bared as he tried to figure out this sudden change. It didn't take long. The burning sense of pride that had filled him was fading, and he glanced up towards the cliff side above Grey Brother.
Well done, young one. Once more you do yourself credit. There, high above, Shere Khan had his paw on the Virtue. The way it was shrinking, it wouldn't be long before the big tiger could carry it between his jaws. For a brief moment, the old wolf hesitated, knowing he would have to ask a lot of the younger canine with what he had to do now. He risked a single, proud glance at Grey Brother, a look filled with silent praise.
"Shere Khan has the Virtue! He must not be allowed to escape with it!" he howled, his head tilting back, exposing his throat as he warned his embattled allies of what was happening. Unfortunately for both wolves, Akela would draw the attention of everyone by howling. And Grey Brother would be forced to endanger the Lone Wolf's life by going for his throat like a true villain.

Gray Brother felt satisfaction well up within him as he heard Akela's warning to their allies. He'd been successful in drawing the attention of his old master to the endangered Orb. The young wolf looked up and over his shoulder at the tiger on the cliff. Mulan was the closest FoG member to the Virtue, but unless she could free herself from Shan Yu's sudden grip, she wouldn't be much help. Besides, even if she did get to the ledge, he would bet that, on such a small rock platform, her sword would be no use against Shere Khan.
Still, other heroes would heed the call. At least now Gray Brother could say he'd done all he could to help his true friends without blowing his cover.
That sense of triumph faded when he looked back at Akela, ready to keep playing his act. The old wolf had bared his throat in howling. A real ruthless, cold-hearted, embittered rogue wouldn't hesitate to go for the exposed, vital weak point—but Taraha was only pretending to be a villain. He didn't really want to hurt his Alpha!
Nevertheless, he imagined he could feel the eyes of the Forces of Evil on him, and the threats and warnings of the Horned King came to him in a bitter, fearful memory. Akela would want him to continue the act, right? The elderly canine had defended himself since before Gray Brother was whelped. He wouldn't let his guard down now, he was too wise for it.
Despite all of these reassurances to himself, the son of Rama's golden eyes were still wide with fear that Akela really wasn't just giving him an opening on purpose—he had slipped, and this was a mistake.
No, he thought to himself, almost panicked, not wanting to hesitate and give himself away, but also loathe to entertain the possibility of harming his old friend, He's never left himself open to attack before. This must be on purpose. He must want me to go for it.
And with that, praying he was right and Akela would suddenly guard himself just in time, Gray Brother blurred forward as quickly as he dared, jaws wide, teeth glinting in the faint glow of the shrunken Orb and the moonlight, aiming unmistakably for the leader of the Seeonee wolves's throat.

Truth be told, Akela had made an error. The Orb was more important than a single wolf, all things considered, and he knew full well what was at stake if they should fall into the hands of their enemies. Therefore, his attention had drifted from Grey Brother to the Virtue as he howled, taking notice of where his allies were. There, closest to Shere Khan, was Mulan, caught in the grip of the enormous Man she had been fighting. Behind him, Bolt was locked in a struggle with another dog while Quasimodo faced off with the great bear. And, in front of him stood Taraha, posing as one of his foes.
A foe who was going for his throat.
Only years of experience coupled with the instincts of a wolf who would by preference live and hunt on his own saved the Lone Wolf from having his throat torn open, and his life's blood spilled out upon the ground. But not even Akela could avoid the younger wolf's fangs entirely. Pain slashed across his neck as he narrowly missed having his neck grasped by curling back on himself as he leaped backwards, but the younger wolf's fangs had still scored his neck deeply enough to draw blood. A strained groaning growl escaped his maw as he landed.
He stopped a small ways in front of Grey Brother, his face drawn up into a furious snarl like a wolf who fully intended to rip a foe to shreds, but unmistakable pride shown in his eyes. The Lone Wolf resolved to make certain there would be many songs in the jungle of Grey Brother's bravery. The first of the Seonee to step forward to fight beside Akela, even if the pack would view him as a traitor.
Blood flowed over his chest as he resumed circling, hoping somebody could stop Shere Khan.

Kopa, in his little alcove in the rock face, watched everything go down outside when suddenly, Akela howled, alerting the heroes to something. Out of the corner of his eye, Kopa saw the light from the Virtue diminish a good deal, and looked in that direction. There he saw an awful sight: Shere Khan was just about to take the Virtue for the Villains! Kopa immediately felt a strong urge to do something, coupled with a sudden feeling of more intense bravery and courage than he ever felt before. He also started remembering his family again, and how he would gladly do anything to help them and his land.
Though he could never explain afterwards how he did it, he squeezed out of his hiding place and bolted, faster than he had ever run before, not away from the battle, and not towards Shere Khan, but towards the Virtue. He didn't go straight for it, but instead climbed up and circled around the rim of the Gorge out of the reach of any of the Villains. Then, when he was at just the right spot, he sprang directly towards the Virtue and swiped it out of Shere Khan's grip. Grasping it perfectly with his left paw, the cub landed squarely on another ledge just six feet in front of the tiger.
He looked down at his paw, and saw that he indeed had the Orb in his grip, perhaps not so large as before, but still the same one he had seen floating above the first ledge before.
Laughing half in triumph and half in disbelief, he turned around and showed his friends and his foes what he had done. "Now, how's that for Second-In-Line?"

Gray Brother wasn't paying attention to Kopa. If he had been, he would have noticed the ebb of the warmth at his back given off by the shrunken Orb as it moved from Shere Khan into the paw of the Prince of the Pridelands.
His focus was on Akela as he circled. A little uncertainty crossed the young wolf's face at the sight of the blood on his pack leader's throat fur and the taste of it in his own mouth. At least he hadn't done too much serious damage.
Quickly shaking the blood that was still dripping from the cut on his face out of his golden eyes, Taraha remembered to put on an enraged expression. A true rouge wolf would be frustrated at botching the chance to kill his old Alpha. He had to keep up the charade—the Forces of Evil scouting party was made up of blackguards who were too crafty to let your guard down even for a moment. Especially if you happened to be a double-agent.
"Slower than ever, old one!" he snapped, panting raggedly. In truth, it was actually Akela's speed, both in mind and in motion, that had saved him. But a selfish outcast would most likely only be thinking of his own greatness and how close he had come to victory.
For now, Gray Brother was content to circle, taunt, and catch his breath. His face stung where the leader of the Free People had sliced it, and he wasn't eager to draw any more blood. This dangerous game was energy-sapping.

Mulan felt the warmth of the fight return to her as Kopa took the Orb. She looked up at him. He seemed happy he had something that was noteworthy of Yen Sid, but perhaps he seemed too happy.
"That's great, but maybe you should run before being happy!" She called seeing Shere Khan just in the distance where he could tear Kopa to shreds. Mulan looked back at Shan Yu, swing her sword. A few warning strikes to try and make him flinch into letting her go.
She looked over to Akela and Gray Brother. She thought that perhaps if she could provoke that evil wolf to fight her and see if Akela could fight Shan Yu, then maybe they could win. She knew Shan Yu could beat her in one on one combat, but if she switched with Akela she could easily knock out the other wolf and get one of her many fireworks she hid around the Pride Lands. If they could just light one and send it up to the sky then within minutes other Forces of Good would come, and that would ensure they got the Virtue.
She just needed to figure out how to switch.

Akela carefully hid just how injured he truly was. He really needed to get free from this fight and take some time to heal. If he had to keep exerting himself, he risked passing out from blood loss and fatigue. But he couldn't show how serious his injury was. Not now. He knew how Grey Brother must feel, having wounded him. And the Lone Wolf refused to burden him even more.
"But still faster than you, pup. Even now, I am your better, dead wolf," he snarled, glad the younger wolf had returned to circling. While circling, a quick glance revealed Kopa had gotten hold of the Virtue. While it was good to see it in a Hero's grasp, it also placed Kopa in extreme danger. Shere Khan wouldn't hesitate to kill the young cub if it meant getting the Orb. But there was nothing Akela could do about it.
---
Shere Khan's look of disbelief changed into one of fierce anger when he realized what had happened. That mewling cub! The big tiger's eyes narrowed as he crouched on the ledge, facing Kopa, ready to pounce. His tail twitched as he gathered himself for the jump.
"You'll pay for that," he snarled, launching himself at the lion cub, intent on seizing the Orb. Whatever the young lion decided to do, Shere Khan would pursue him, unless he dropped the Virtue. If he decided to run, Shere Khan was faster, stronger, and far more experienced at running down a fleeing target. His claws swiped at the lion prince's legs, aiming to cripple him.
