[February 3-Open to all. This thread isn't intended to be a fight, but we'll just see how it progresses.]
Although Zira and many of the local animals, lionesses and hyenas mainly, knew the terrain like the back of their paws, Shere Khan was still rather new to these parts of the world. He knew the jungles of India, but very little beyond. And since there was a war about to erupt, he felt it wise to familiarize himself with the surrounding area. So, why not probe their enemy's defenses while he was at it? The river, though filled with numerous crocodiles, was not completely effective in deterring an invader.
Case in point, part of it was narrow enough that the big tiger managed to leap across with a single, powerful bound, placing him firmly into the Pridelands. He took a moment to savor the feel of grass beneath his paws once again. The Outlands, with all its dust, and scattered, wilted shrubbery, was still rather alien to him. His tail twitched as he gazed around, wondering how long his presence would go unchallenged. Surely the Forces of Good wouldn't leave their closest border to their rivals completely unguarded. He listened carefully, sniffing the air as he gazed about for any signs of someone hiding in the tall grass, but there didn't seem to be anyone lurking about. Or, if they were, they were taking great care to remain still, and downwind of his position.
Either way, if they were hiding from him or simply not present, they didn't pose a threat, and he padded deeper into the Pridelands, intent on finding out just how far into his enemy's lands before he was challenged.
