The Rescuers
Bernard used to work at the Rescue Aid Society as the janitor. He never seemed to be upset or unsatisfied with his modest lifestyle. But everything changed the day that the society found a message inside a bottle, the same day in which he met Miss Bianca. During the meeting in which the bottle was brought, he was asked by the Chairmouse to retrieve the note. The Chairmouse discovered that the note was addressed to Morningside Orphanage, but couldn't decipher the rest of the message because most of the hand-writing had been watered out. With the help of Miss Bianca they managed to discover that the author of the note was a girl named Penny. Out of compassion, the Hungarian delegate asked her superior to give her this assignment. After hearing that she would be taking the mission on her own, Bernard pointed out to his boss that he couldn't allow her to go all alone. The head of the society agrees, only if she chooses a male coagent for safety. And much to everyone's surprise, the chosen one was none other than Bernard.
Their first stop of their investigation was Morningside Orphanage. There they met an old cat, named Rufus, Penny's good friend and confident. They asked him if he hadn't seen anything suspicious before her disappearance. Rufus recalled that right before she disappeared, a strange woman had offered Penny a ride. The same woman ran a pawn shop nearby the place.
When they arrived to the pawn shop. They discovered Penny's books, signaling that the girl had been there. At that moment, someone entered to the pawn shop. The person was a red-hair woman whose name was Madame Medusa. The woman attended a call from a man named Snoops, his colleague. Both mice learned during her conversation that she had taken Penny to a place known as the Devil's Bayou, and the girl was the key to get a diamond from a cave because she was small enough to get inside there.
After hearing that Penny had been sending notes in bottles and due to his colleague's incompetence, she decided to take this matter herself. Bernard and Bianca tried to hide in Medusa's luggage. But this proved to be useless due to the woman's driving, and both mice ended up in the middle of the street.
The next day they headed to the airport to take the first flight that headed to the Devil's Bayou. At first it seemed that they arrived late to take the flight. As they're about to leave, the radio received a call from the pilot requesting permission to land. The pilot crash-landed at the airport, it was an albatross named Orville.
Orville proceeded to take them to the Devil's Bayou. Their flight went smoothly, until they arrived to the bayou. Orville was hit in the rear by a flare, forcing them to make and emergency landing. Both mice almost fell to their demise, if it wasn't for Bianca's umbrella. Fortunately they landed safely near Luke's and Ellie Mae's house. After Orville's departure, Ellie Mae took them to Evinrude. The dragonfly acted as both, the ferryman and the motor of the boat. They followed a pair of cocodriles holding a little girl, to an abandoned and broken ferry.
Bernard along with Bianca, they stayed close to look after Penny. They discovered more about Medusa's plan to retrieve a diamond known as the Devil's Eye. The mice stayed by Penny's side and brought her hope, by telling her that they found her message and came to her rescue. They formulated along with Penny a way to escape from Medusa's lair after they came back with the diamond.
The next day, they hid inside Penny's pockets to help her. Things were getting complicated inside the cave, due to the rise of the tide. They discovered the Devil's Eye location by mere luck, after Penny accidentally drop his lamp. The diamond was across the hole from which the water was rising. Penny almost fell when she tried to cross the waterhole. But fortunately for them the water dragged them to the other side. The diamond was inside a pirate's skull, but it was too big to be taken out by the sockets. As the water level began to increase, Bernard suggested to use the pirate's sword to open the skull's jaw.
After putting her hands over the diamond, Medusa betrayed Snoops. Now her plans didn't include neither of them, and she pretended to smuggle the diamond inside Penny's teddy bear. Bernard and Bianca, with the help of the swamp folks, they managed to help Penny escape. Back at the RAS, they watched a television program telling Penny's story. The program even covered Penny's adoption, in which she thanked Bernard and Bianca for rescuing her. That very same day, Evinrude arrived with a rescue note. Bianca volunteers them to this new mission, which coincidentally fell on the 13th of January.
The Rescuers: Down Under
Bernard decided to propose to Bianca at fancy restaurant, but things didn't go the way he planned, after he almost lost the ring. Before he can even propose to her, Bianca unexpectedly said to him that she already knew what was about to say. Bernard at first thought that she was taking about marriage, but he didn't know that she was taking about a rescue assignment. He discovered this until they arrived to the Rescue Aid Society. They had to rescue a boy that had been captured by a poacher. After being given the assignment, they headed to the Albatross airlines. Instead of finding Orville, they found his brother Wilbur in charge of the business.
Wilbur is reluctant at first of taking them out to Australia, given the weather conditions. It was until they mentioned that a kid was in danger, that the albatross accepted. But in order to get to their destiny they had to make connections with a bigger bird, as Wilbur said. They had to hid beneath the wheel compartment of a plane heading to Australia. Their landing wasn't exactly the best, mainly because Wilbur didn't hear the directions of the person in charge. They were received by a kangaroo rat named Jake, who seemed to be very kind and helpful toward Bianca. Wilbur couldn't get along with them due to a back injury. Jake offered himself to be their guide in these lands.
