Plot
Welcome to Disney Destiny! We are a Role-Playing forum based on various Disney movies. The plotline is that the sorcerer, Yen Sid, has been keeping ten magical Orbs made up of pure Good energy in his tower to study them, calling them the "Ten Virtues". But when Maleficent, Jafar, and the Horned King form an alliance and come to forcibly steal those Orbs, Yen Sid tries to fight them off, and in the battle, the powerful objects are thrown into the far reaches of all of the lands. Yen Sid calls upon his apprentice, Mickey Mouse, and asks him to gather all of the heroes under him to help retrieve and protect the Ten Virtues from the forces of evil, who have also banded together to claim the orbs for themselves.
Now, we want you guys to have fun here—that's what it's all about. But in order for everyone to get as much fun out of the RP as possible, there's gotta be some rules! In order to even exist as a member on this forum, you have to obey these rules. If anyone disobeys the rules, they'll be firmly warned. If the disobeying persists after that, I'll kick you out, so I recommend you read carefully.
Writing or Role Playing Rules
1. Please, everyone, I'll have to insist that you write in the third person and past tense only. That means you write like this: Mickey hoisted his Wizard's Hat over his head, NOT like this: I hoist my Wizard's Hat over my head/I hoisted my Wizards hat over my head/Mickey hoists his Wizard's Hat over his head., see? It's easier to follow when everyone writes in the same person and tense.
2. You know I understand beginners to writing, but please use proper grammar and punctuation.
Punctuation, (though I shouldn't need to explain it) means you use quotation marks for when someone is speaking, you put commas where commas need to be, you put periods or exclamation points or question marks at the ends of sentences where it is appropriate, and, for the love of donuts, you capitalize the names of people and places and you capitalize the beginning letters of every new sentence.
Like this: "We've got to get those orbs back!" declared Mickey Mouse, glancing over at Minnie Mouse. instead of like this: we've got to get those orbs back" said Mickey Mouse looking over at minnie mouse
I know nobody's perfect, but put an effort into this, I'm not kidding. (NOTE: Currently, the staff is offering to grammar-check the posts of those who have trouble with grammar. If you would like this service extended to you, message either the admin {Mickey Mouse} or the staff members to see whether or not they are willing and for further information.)
3. No godmodding. For those of you who don't know (I didn't, when I began RPing), "Godmodding" is when you control another person's character, in what they say or what they do.
For example, if I played Mickey and was RPing him with Maleficent player, I couldn't say, Mickey fired a bolt of colorful light at Maleficent, but Maleficent dodged. because that would be controlling Maleficent when I don't play her, even if it's something small like her dodging an attack.
You can't control other people's characters in any way, unless you can prove that you have their permission. Godmodding also means making your character perfect, untouchable, un-phase-able, indestructible, never gets their feelings hurt, never blows their top, never loses a fight, ect., ect. Both of these types of godmodding are not allowed! Remember, we don't want any one character to be too overpowered. If your character is pretty ridiculously powerful, just by nature (ex. Genie, Yen Sid), we ask that you keep a leash on it in any way possible. Make up excuses as to why your character wouldn't do something unfairly over-powerful when they could if they wanted to.
4. No offense, but please use English. I can't understand anything else. No chatspeak, either. The grammar thing goes for both in-character and out-of-character posts.
5. Speaking of which, use parenthesis ( <—these babies right here —> ) for OOC (out of character) posts.
6. Absolutely NO one-line, one-sentence posts. I want everybody's posts to have at least five sentences, minimum. There's no limit on how much you can write, of course. Long posts are way better than short posts; they give the person you're RPing with more to work with, and honestly, they're more fun for everyone.
7. If you start a thread, you can open it to all characters or make it exclusive to a select few. Just remember, when starting a thread, post where it is and when, as in the date. We will be keeping a timeline, so we know when certain events happen before or after other events.
These are things I'm pretty strict and pet-peevish about.
Behavior Rules
1. No harassing someone to reply to a thread. You can shout out for them in the "You Won't Forget Me, Will You?" thread, and if they don't see that, you can message them. But don't nag, because nagging saps the muse and inspiration and FUN out of everything.
2. If you have a complaint with someone, you talk to me or the staff about it. I don't want any talking about people behind their backs, rumors, slander, or fighting. No cyber-bullying.
3. Come on, guys, be polite. Do you know what polite means? It means don't be snobby. Don't act like your writing is so much better than a newbie's or someone else's. I don't care if you've been here longer than anyone else so you think you have the right, I don't care if they're breaking all the rules, heck, I don't care if they're STAFF, I am not going to tolerate snobs. If you don't think a character would do something that their player is making them do, or if you're not happy with their style of writing, I have a suggestion for you: suck it up. There's nothing worse than a rude, cliquey, control-freakish know-it-all. I'm not saying don't offer criticism or friendly advice, I'm saying make it just that; friendly. No flaming art, writing, or anything else. You be nice. I want to develop cavities because of how sweet you all are.
4. No theft. You know what I'm talking about: plagiarism! What you post, be it art or stories or videos or even RP posts, had better be yours, or if it's not, then give credit to the real owner.
5. Respect the staff. We're your best buddies, we're here to help, we want to have fun, but we're still the staff. Meaning yes, we are the boss of you. But don't worry. We've decided to use our powers for good and not evil.
6. Advertising as a Guest is allowed, but we do have rules for it, and it goes for our members, too: absolutely DO NOT post an advertisement that contains inappropriate material that would be considered over PG rating. No cussing in your advertisement, and no crude, rude, or even remotely offensive images. Other than that, advertise away, but be sure that we will advertise on your site, too!
7. If you wish to post an advertisement on this forum, you are required to be an active member of this RP. Otherwise your advertisement will be deleted.
7. If you wish to post an advertisement on this forum, you are required to be an active member of this RP. Otherwise your advertisement will be deleted.
Character Rules
1. Here at Disney Destiny, you are allowed to be just about any animated character from any Disney movie. If there is a character that you think seems like a stretch, don't worry about it, it's probably allowed, but you could PM me and ask.
Also! Guess what? Video game characters ARE allowed here. The only one that isn't—and I have a feeling some of you will be crestfallen—is Kingdom Hearts. I'm sorry! I love them, too. But they wouldn't fit with out plot for a number of reasons.
NO live action characters. None. No Pirates of the Caribbean, John Carter, or Hannah Montanna. Also, none of the TV shows that are not directly linked to a theatrically produced Disney Movie. So no Kim Possible, American Dragon: Jake Long, or Gravity Falls, or even the ever-remarkable Phineas and Ferb. We also don't allow anime, so no "Secret World of Arietty" or "Ponyo".
2. Sorry, I love fan characters and all, but they aren't allowed here. No "OCs". Only canon, legit, official characters from the movies or TV shows or specified video games of Disney.
Now, if you want to take a background character, like one of the random, unnamed Dalmatian puppies who you see in the background of a movie, for example, slap whatever name and personality on them that you want and call it a character, I'm cool with that. As long as you have a screenshot of the BG to prove to me the character exists.
Anyway, background characters basically are fan characters because you can do whatever you want with them short of changing their appearance (and even that you can do as you play the character), whereas with "named characters" like Cinderella, Mother Gothel or Simba, you have to do whatever their character would do. Heck, you could even play Mulan's horse or one of the random trolls in Frozen or something.
3. Each member is only allowed twelve characters each, though a two-slot claim extension will granted to anyone wishing to claim plot-important characters. This number may change as the RPG gets more active or less active, but for now we'll stick with the set limit. Staff members are permitted to claim more.
4. How to go about getting a character? Well, first you have to go to the "Diamond in the Rough" thread and claim the character you want. Then, assuming no one has already claimed that character or a staff member doesn't object for some reason, you fill out the Character Application Form for your character and post it in the "Character Apps" thread. Wait for me to approve it. I'll get to it as soon as I can, but if for some reason I deny the application, you're allowed to ask me why so you can try again, but don't complain. I have good reasons for denying apps.
5. Each character MUST have a separate account. See how my account's name is "Mickey Mouse"? Obviously that's not my real name. Well, for each of your characters, you must have an account that is theirs under their name, and when you post as them, post using their account. So I'll have multiple accounts, and if you have more than one character, so will you. See?
6. If a character's killed, which may happen, do not pick that character up, even if their previous owner has left the site. In some cases, if the previous owner gives you permission and you can think of a reasonable explanation for that character to come back to life, you may--but I need proof that the previous owner had, indeed, given you permission.
7. Don't post as a character unless I've approved it. If you do, I'll never let you have that character.
Plot Rules
1. You have to actually read the plot, which is in the thread called "Once Upon a Mouse".
UNDENIABLE MANDATORY RULES
These are rules that I have no exceptions for, I'm not going to apologize for, and I absolutely WILL NOT tolerate being broken. You don't get any second chances with these.
1. No cussing. At all. Period. I just do NOT care if you think it makes your writing more colorful or more realistic or whatever, or if you think the character would say it. Or if you're really mad out of character and you want to show off your vocabulary limitations to let off some steam. NO CUSSING. None of the movies cuss, really. Not even the bad guys. So don't tell me your character would say or even think it. There are kids on this site.
2. That being said, though "cartoon-violence" will happen, I want to only see as much gore and carnage as is the bare minimum to get your point across. Obviously, drastic, horrible things are allowed to happen to your characters (Maleficent did get pierced through the heart in plain view with a sword, you know, blood and everything), but I don't want you to give too graphic a description of it. I don't like cleaning barf off of my iPad.
3. No inappropriate scenes. Ever at all nada. Kissing's allowed, of course. Romance, yes. But if it wouldn't be shown in a Disney cartoon, I don't wanna see it.
4. This is a Disney Crossover RP. Characters like Aladdin will be meeting characters like Winnie the Pooh. However, that does not mean that they have to be turned into animals or animals can be turned into humans. Animals can talk to humans here: It's part of Yen Sid's magical spell that brought us all together.
***
Okay, with all that out of the way, please have fun! If you have any questions at all, message me. I don't want to be this unapproachable, all-powerful admin that you can't ask about anything. I want to help! I love your questions, and none of them AT ALL are stupid questions. Chances are, the questions you ask will be the same questions other people have. Still, if you feel like it might be an obvious answer and feel silly for asking it (which you shouldn't!) just Private Message me or Akela the question, and we'll be absolutely ecstatic to answer them for you!
Obey these rules, please! I'd hate to kick anyone out.
