Ty Parsec's Log, entry 2031. Well, today I arrived on...this weird planet. Huh, if you can even call it that. To recap, since I...uh, got...sidetracked and didn't get to update my log, I received a transmission from Star Command at 0800 about two days ago.
I was just patrolling the Canis-Lunis quadrant—just to check on the, uh, Sentry Bots, of course—when it came in over the intercom on my ship. The transmission said that an unknown planet had suddenly appeared without warning two sectors over from the Star Command space station.
Normally, I'm not contacted for stuff like that. No, not me. I've got training in 'automated sentry equipment supervision'. Which is a nice way of saying I'm not a field agent like Buzz Lightyear. You know, I've got just as much combat training as he does, and still I'm sidelined.
Anyway, I was surprised that I was on the call list to investigate, being so far off. But apparently it was a specialized case. The mystery planet had just...materialized out of nothing. Stranger than that, HQ had received a vague, cryptic distress call from a being of unknown origin, or something like that.
So, obviously, I accepted. Like I said, it's not every day I get an offer like this.
Once I got within sight of the planet in question, I was pretty surprised. The scans were off the chart. But, you know, all in a day's work. Not usually my day's work, but there was no way I was backing out.
The 'planet' was completely shrouded in a thick yellow-and-blue smog. It—well, it sort of...sparkled, as I went into it. The funny thing was, it felt like it took ages to get into, but no time at all to pass through. Maybe the fog was some kind of warping chemical.
Once my ship made it through the cloud layer—now, here's the really strange part—it disappeared. Suddenly I was falling through the sky. Luckily, a Ranger like myself is always prepared. Needless to say, I used my suit to hover the rest of the distance towards the ground. While I was descending, I looked for my ship—a wreckage, something. But all I saw was the weird landscape.
When I say weird, I mean it. I was lowering down on a dry, hot, huge expanse of sunny plains, dotted with a few trees. The biggest landmark I could see was a huge monolith rock shaped like a flipped letter 'L', with some sort of tower construction suspended in midair over it.
There were all sorts of animals milling around in clumps, but away to the left, a dark shadowy land connected to a 21st century Earth-style Oceanside city. The sea ringed the golden and dark land, with islands off to one side. There were deserts, mountains, forests...a whole patchwork of mismatched environments, like someone had sewn different worlds together.
I've learned that my predictions were correct. The Tower was inhabited by a man who calls himself a Sorcerer by the name of Yen Sid. He's not of any galaxy recorded in record. Neither are any of the life-forms here, or the locations. Anyway, the sorcerer claims to have combined several 'worlds' together, trying to unite their various inhabitants and get them all to work together. What they're working together towards is finding Ten Orbs that supposedly have 'great power' according to the wackos—I mean, locals—who live out here. There's another entire army that wants the same thing, and they seem to be hostile, like bad news.
I've thrown my lot in with the brighter of the two groups, on the Sorcerer's side—"The Forces of Good", they call themselves.
I suppose I'll check in later to deliver any further updates. Ranger Parsec out.
